Week of Feb 6-10 LL #26

Pre-Algebra:
This week I did my last two lessons of Chapter 7, and I completed my Chapter 7 test. Chapter 7 was pretty easy and fun, and I can't wait for Chapter 8! Making progress!

Creative Writing:
This week we filled out another worksheet about our family song. We talked about the mood and POV of the song.

Social Studies:
This week I finished Volume I of Story of the World!!! I misplaced Volume II, and searching all week did nothing, so I started reading through the summaries of Volume II activity book to catch up. I should start Volume III next week- hopefully I don't memorize the history in the wrong order by reading the books in the wrong order. Oh well.

Tech (Exploring Technology):
This week was my last Minecraft activity for my Maps and the World class! I learned about time zones. My Minecraft activity was to build a clock showing the time here, the time in London England, and the time in a place of my choosing. So, three clocks.

My original idea was to build a Creeper face and put the time on it. So, I made a creeper face (the smaller one). I decided it needed to be bigger, so for every one block on the smaller one, I did 4 blocks on the bigger one. The bigger creeper is four times the size of the smaller one. However... I decided putting words on the creepers would be hard and look weird. Start over...

It started snowing, and it looks so pretty!!!!

So, I decided to build this thing. I blocked out the numbers (the left hand side was the time here, and the right hand side was the time in London) of the time and wrote "HERE" above the left hand side. I was going to write "London, England" above the other one, but can you see why I decided that was a horrible idea? It took SO long to write just 4 letters, and you can bet I wasn't looking forward to writing 13 letters. However, just using a sign looks so crappy compared to the huge, awesome clock things I made! What to do?!

Scrap that idea. Ugh. So, I decided to make a little building, more like a hall shaped like an L, and put the words on signs in the hall. Since it was snowing as I built this, naturally everything got covered in snow.

Signs don't look too bad now, do they? I used a "glow ink sac" (something you get from killing glow squids in Minecraft... I'll not get into that) to make the words glow. You can't read them, unfortunately, but it says that the time in London, England was 6:24 p.m.

Over here, around the corner of my L, shows the time it was when I was building my huge clock in the sky (the one after the creeper idea). It was 11:24 a.m. Almost directly across from that was the Hawaiian time- 8:24 a.m.

Far in the distance of the forest-y home of my Creepers, there is the half an apple I built last week. I didn't realize I built them in the same place, ha ha. And a point of pride- I happened to build my creepers basically right up against the spot where you "spawn in" to the Forest biome, so my creepers are the very first thing you see when you go into the Forest. Yay!!!

Elective (Writing for Publication):
This week we worked on revising the 3 paragraphs we wrote for homework. The teacher brought in donuts and we snacked while talking about revising tips.
