Week of Feb 13-17 LL #27

Pre-Algebra:
This week I started Chapter 8 of Mr. D. Math!!! Also, every month Mr. D. Math has a math contest. If you win, you get a $5 Amazon gift card. For the month of February, they are having one contest for each week. I have won twice! I have $10 somewhere... :)

Creative Writing:
This week we read over "Ode to Broken Things" and "Ode to Artichokes", both by a man named Neftali Ricardo Reyes Basoalto, who changed his name to Pablo Neruda. They are really great poems, and probably my favorite poems ever! We talked about odes and then wrote our own as practice. Then, we talked about the family songs we've started working on, and the teacher said we could do them as odes if we want. I was originally going to do that, but I decided not to.

My song topic was "Home is where the water is purified", since it was cool and unlike the other students. It may make me seem entitled, but it was all I could think of.

Ode to Home:

I need to know my water
Like I need air to breathe
Fluoride and chemicals
Pharmaceuticals and other crap
Not for me, please

Tap water is a stranger to me
I always bring a bottle from home
Water from the Berkey purifier
I thirst if I forget

The green pitcher you have
I drank from once
It was cool temperature
But bad taste

I need my water
Like I need air to breathe
I don't want to leave home
Without my special water

I'll work more on it next week. 🥤

Social Studies:
This week I started Book III. Book II is still lost, unfortunately. I read two chapters and worked on my State Capitals workbook.

Tech (Exploring Technology):
This week I registered for my new Minecraft class. I was going to do a course about history again, but I decided to do a Psychology course. It starts next week. I can't wait!

Elective (Writing for Publication):
My class was on Valentine's Day this week! We exchanged Valentines and played some fun Valentine's Day games. My favorite one was where we write a sentence, pass it to another person, and they write a sentence. They then fold down the paper, covering the first sentence, and pass it. The next person writes a sentence and folds down the paper, covering the second sentence. They pass it again, and so on. It was hilarious! The teacher said we should do them Valentine's Day themed... and I seriously twisted it.

The story I started was the best, I think. It started out "The love story starts with a green vacuum." It was passed around, and when it came back to me, I didn't know it was my story. I wrote "The guy behind her said, 'That's because I love you.'" When the story was finished and read aloud, I realized that the guy I created was talking to a vacuum. Oops... It was hilarious!!! I hope I can play that game again soon... ( ͡~ ͜Ê– ͡°)
