Week of Oct 24-28 LL #12

Pre-Algebra:
This week I did the lessons Literal Equations, Logic Puzzles, and my Chapter 3 Test. The logic puzzles lesson was fun! I solved three equations using just logic. They were really entertaining!

Creative Writing:
This week we talked about researching for our books. If we don't know something, we search it. We discussed search keywords and other things. Our teacher told us that once, she was researching for a poison that tasted sweet for one of her books. She came up with one, and shared a funny thought- People talk about writers having bad search histories, searching for how to murder someone and such (if they were writing horror or mystery, perhaps). But what if they knew how to do those things and didn't have that search history? Back away, slowly... ;)

Social Studies:
This week I learned about Ancient Crete, and the legend of the Minotaur. So this week, I drew a labyrinth for the minotaur. It was very hard but also very fun.

Week of Oct 17-21 LL #11

Pre-Algebra:

This week I did a lesson where I had to figure out what was being done to the variable (x) and do the opposite. I learned about addition and subtraction and multiplication and division.

Creative Writing:
This week I filled out a worksheet about one of my main characters in the book I'm writing. We talked about the questions on the worksheet. This week there were 5 more teens in the class! When I walked in, instead of there being 4 other classmates, the table was crowded. Wow. It was quite a surprise.

Social Studies:
This week I learned about the Phoenicians and the Return of the Assyrians. The Phoenicians were really cool traders. They blew glass, made purple dye from snails, and cut down trees, boated them across rivers, and sold them. The Assyrians were a really powerful empire, but the Babylonians had captured them. The Assyrians were finally able to rebel, and they overthrew Babylon. They were once again really powerful. They conquered every city or town they came by, up and down the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. They were the most powerful empire. But the leader was afraid no one would remember him, and since he liked to read, he collected thousands of stone tablets and made the world's first library. It worked- we remember him as the book collector.

Black Island Farms Field Trip

We had our first field trip of the year! We went to Black Island Farms with Kaylee's classmates. We invited Grandma to tag along. We went on a hayride, picked a pumpkin, ate Jimmy John's for lunch and played!

The kids enjoyed the corn pit and we're satisfied until they were completely covered.

We also got lost in the corn maze, but eventually found the bridge. The slides were our favorite part!

Tenses, A Golden Casket, and Ocean Currents! LL #9-10

Pre-Algebra:
This week I learned about like terms and distributive property, basically solving for x. I got a B on both lessons.

Creative Writing:
This week I learned about tenses and story point of views (or POVs). We practiced writing a scene of a story in the different tenses and point of views. Here are some of mine (by the way, I could not find it in my tablet notes, so I tried to recreate them here):

First Person POV, past tense (usual writing).

I was in my garden, peacefully watering my roses.
Suddenly, I heard an awfully familiar scream.
My human sister!
I sprang up into the sky with my gold wings.
No! My sister! Where is she?
I looked all around, but I could not find her.
The evil fairy, the Dark One, has my sister!
Where is she?
I finally found her. Tied up to a giant tree.

Third Person POV, past tense

The fairy was in her garden, peacefully watering her roses.
Her human sister was tied up to a giant tree, not too far away. The fairy
did not know she was there. Seeing the Dark One leave, she
screamed as loud as she could.
The fairy looked up. She sprang into the air with her gold wings.
No! My sister! Where is she? The fairy thought.
Help me, thought the human girl. Please, help me. Over here.
The fairy finally saw her. She gasped.
The girl was tied up to the tree.

First Person POV, present tense

I am in my garden, peacefully watering my roses.
Suddenly, I hear an awfully familiar scream.
My human sister!
I spring up into the sky with my golden wings.
No! My sister! Where is she?
I look all around, but I can not see her.
The evil fairy, the Dark One, has my sister!
Where is she?
I finally find her. Tied up to a giant tree.

(just for fun) 2nd Person POV, future tense!

You will be in your garden, peacefully watering your roses.
Suddenly, you will hear an awfully familiar scream.
My human sister! You will think.
You will spring up into the sky with your golden wings.
No! My sister! Where is she? You will think.
You will realize that the evil fairy, the Dark One, has your sister.
You will finally find her. She will be tied up to a giant tree.

It was so much fun! I loved it. By the way, for clarity, 1st person is "I" and "me". This has lots of feeling, but you can't reveal other characters' thoughts.
2nd person is "you". It's as if the events are happening to you, which is cool, but sadly, this is rarely used, and mostly for Chose Your Adventure books.
3rd person is "they" and the characters' names. This includes everyone's actions and thoughts, which is nice, and can provide tension with stuff the reader knows and the main character(s) do not. However, you feel outside of the story, not that much feeling in it.

Social Studies:
This week I made a tomb for something (you shall see what later), and drew a map to the tomb. I made Owen the archeologist and we had lots of fun finding and exploring the tomb.

It's The End... It's Over. 2022-2023 Goodbye!

Pre-Algebra: This week I completed my Final Mr. D. Math lesson and my Semester II test!! I completed a survey and gave them some feedback. I...
