Julius Caesar and The End of Shakespeare

Math:
This week we had some visitors and we played games with them!

Our dad's parents came and we played several card games and some Chess.

Chess took more than two hours long!!

We also played Spoons, Spot It, and Dos.

Language Arts:
We read Julius Ceasar this week. It involved a lot of death like most other things written by Shakespeare. We finished Shakespeare this week and had our book party. Check out this post to see how it went!

Science:
Spa Chemistry (Kaylee):
Today I experimented on apples!  The experiment is dipping apple slices in different liquids to see which liquid stops it from turning brown. I dipped the apples in vinegar, baking soda water, lemon juice, and salt water. I left one apple slice plain so I could watch it turn brown. This experiment is a little like the penny experiment from last week- the pennies turned brown and dirty when exposed to oxygen, just like sliced apples do!

I waited, but nothing happened. The slice dipped in vinegar turned brown and ugly, but the other apple slices were a little brown where the apple core was and stayed that way. They didn't turn any browner.
Something's wrong... 🙁 This apple did not turn brown and we didn't want to waste another one in order to try again.

Elementary Science (Landen):

I helped mom make sourdough pancakes.

I loved feeding the sourdough flour and water! She explained to me how a sourdough starter works. It gives off a gas as it breaks down the flour and water. You can see the bubbles in the picture.

Technology:
Digital Photography (Kaylee):

I watched more videos on Creative Live. I learned about the focal point on cameras and saw the differences of photos with different focal points and either a crop or full frame sensor.

Digital Art (Landen):

I animated a stage and microphone. We still need to figure out how to share the project on the blog.

Elective:
Culinary Arts (Kaylee):

This week I took a break from my Radish kit and made some garlic knots for our book club party!

I watched a video about how to made different shapes of bread rolls. It was fun to see all the different shapes! My favorite was when she divided the dough into two strips, then twisted them together and rolled it up. I hope I can try it someday!

P.E. (Landen):
We played at the park and practiced tennis this week!

Dad and I were on the red team.

Kaylee and mom were on the blue team.

The littles played badminton.

It was so much fun!

Arts and Crafts (Emberly):

This week we decorated masks for our party. We glued sequins onto our masks and wore them to the party. The pink one is mine, the black fire one is dad's, the kitty one is Kaylee's, the red and blue one is Landen's, and the last one is Owen's. Mom also had a mask that was made of white lace and is really cool!

  2. It sure was a surprise to see pictures of grandpa and me. We sure had fun that day! I can't believe the chess game took 2 hours. I'm glad grandpa played the other games.
The apple experiment did seem weird. I think in my experience, I don't know what keeps an apple from browning.
I bet your rolls were yummy! They sure looked delish! I like to make cloverleaf rolls if I make rolls from scratch. I roll dough into 3 small balls and place them in a hole of a muffin tin. When you eat a roll they are easy to butter by pulling the balls apart and slathing with butter! I'm making myself hungry! Let me know if you make the twisty rolls.
I love sourdough pancakes! I have a start in my fridge right now. I made it about 7 weeks ago. Way to go, Landen, learning about sourdough.
Do you guys like playing tennis?
I hope to see you soon! Lots of love to all!
    💜,
    Grandma Susan

  4. Yes we LOVE tennis! We played it on the Wii a few days ago so we could learn more about how the scoring works. We need to play again before it gets too cold and snowy :(
