Pink Soap Surprise, Setting Up The Trampoline, And Clay Awesomeness!!

Math:
This week I (Kaylee) did more assessments. I'm getting tired of them- I've been doing them for sooo long!!! Luckily, I only have 2 more left, and then I'll be able to start on my lessons! I (Landen) did more multiplication lessons. I (Emberly) did Mathseeds.

Language Arts:
This week I (Kaylee) did more copywork. I (Landen) read a Lego Building book. I (Emberly) read a book I got for my birthday to mom and Kaylee! It was about princesses, called Belle's Story Collection!! I also did Reading Eggs. I finished all the lessons in my maps, which means I can move on to another part of Reading Eggs, called StoryLands! The Reading Eggs website says my reading age is 7 years!!

Science:
Spa Chemistry (Kaylee):
Since Emberly's birthday was this week, I made her some soap as a present!

Roses, Citrus Power, and Stickers!

Math:
I (Kaylee) did some more assessments on CTC. I only have 3 more left! I learned about different equations and statistics. I (Landen) did lessons on CTC about multiplication. I practiced times 6, times 7, and times 4. I (Emberly) learned about the numbers 18, 19, and 20 on Mathseeds.

Language Arts:
I (Kaylee) read some more of The Vanderbeekers and the Hidden Garden. I also practiced my copy work. I (Landen) read some more Harry Potter to mom and dad. I (Emberly) did Reading Eggs.

Science:
Spa Chemistry (Kaylee):
I made some more soap. This time, I used a candle mold for my soap!

I colored it pink and scented it rose, so it looks and smells like a real rose!

Elementary Science (Landen):
This week I used some kitchen citrus to make power!!

I hooked up a clock to some wires and put copper sticks into some lemons. Then, I was able to change the time on the clock to show the real time- and the lemon's juice powered by the copper make the clock work!

It worked like clockwork. (Pun intended, Kaylee came up with that joke.)

Technology:
Digital Photography (Kaylee):
This week I started watching my video on Creative Live about Prop Styling. I learned some tricks about styling the prop set, like using tweezers or chopsticks to carefully arrange the food. I also learned about what food photographers call the "hero," which is a hand-selected piece of food that looks better than the rest of the food. When you make food to take pictures of, you hand-select the raspberries, asparagus, limes, etc. to make, and then you make them. After they are cooked, or baked, or whatever you're doing with the food, you hand-select them AGAIN to find your HERO/s. These are the food(s) that look the best, after you've done all the propping, selecting, cooking, baking- everything but eating and washing dishes.

Digital Art (Landen):
I worked on a surprise project for Kaylee. I can't wait to show it to her!!! I can't tell you about it yet, in case Kaylee sees it.

Elective:
Culinary Arts (Kaylee):
This week I made some homeade, dairy free ice cream out of Strawberry Coconut Yogurt!

First I blended up the yogurt, some coconut cream, honey, and strawberries, and then I poured it into an ice cream container (It's shaped like a bread loaf pan but made out of silicone). Finally, I popped it into the freezer until it hardened. Then, I scooped it out (I should've let it softened a bit more but I was impatient, so it's more like shavings then scoops 😞), put a cherry on top, and ate it! It was really good!! The coconut makes it creamier, in my opinion, then dairy ice cream, so store-bought coconut milk ice cream is actually better than dairy ice cream, in my opinion!!

P.E. (Landen):
This week the weather was awesome, so I went outside and rode my scooter! Emberly and Owen played with me, and we had so much fun!

Arts and Crafts (Emberly):
This week, it was close to my birthday, so my Grandma took me shopping! I bought lots of toys, and we went to Wendy's for lunch. I got a sticker pack with my kid's meal. It was a pop up card that you put stickers on! I decorated one with the stickers, and I let Kaylee decorate the other one. It was so much fun!

Here is the cover of my card!

And... the inside!! I filled it all up with stickers of cars, cute animals, letter stickers, and more! I put a sticker of a car going into a garage and I put some orange stickers on an orange house. It was so much fun!!! Then I showed Kaylee mine and she showed me hers.

This is the cover of Kaylee's card.

She saw the movie theater displaying a movie called "Pop" (for pop-up city) and decided that the whole town would be crazy over and obsessed with the movie, pop. So you can see, in various places in the card, there are the colors and logo of the pop movie with the animals, because everyone loves the movie. Also, we recently re-watched the movie "Shrek," and there was a tower sticker, so Kaylee put the sticker to the bottom left of her card and cut out a bear from a sticker of a bear holding an ice cream cone, and used the red ice cream from the ice cream cone to make red hair. The bear is Princess Fiona from Shrek.

She also wrote her name in stickers at the bottom of her card. It was so much fun to make sticker pop-up cards together and then share and compare!!

The Vanderbeekers (Again!), Peaches, and Some Art!

Math:
I (Kaylee) am still working on assessments. I did assessments about parts of a circle, area, and graphs. I (Emberly) did Mathseeds and learned about the numbers 16 and 17. I (Landen) am doing CTC lessons on Multiplication.

Language Arts:
I (Kaylee) am starting a new Brave Writer book, The Vanderbeekers book 2!!! It's called The Vanderbeekers and the Hidden Garden. Emberly and Landen are taking a break from Brave Writer and doing handwriting practice and spelling practice. I (Landen) am reading 20 minutes a day to mom and doing TTRS. I (Emberly) am reading a book to either mom or Kaylee every day!

Science:
Spa Chemistry (Kaylee):
This week I made a cool bath bomb!

First I made 5 different colors of bath bombs: red, yellow, pink, purple, and brown. I scented them like this: (red) grapefruit, (yellow) lemon, (pink) rose, (purple) lavender, and (brown) vanilla. I was originally going to make lots of really tiny bath bombs and put them all in a bath together to make some really colorful water, but my pink, purple, and yellow mixtures got too wet and collapsed, so I squished them all together and flattened it out into a plate-like shape. It will still make some colorful water, so it's fine by me (even though it broke in two pieces)!

Elementary Science (Landen):
This week, I did my Tiny Science! I did an experiment to see how much water weighs one gram. I took my balance scale, a cube that weighs one gram, a beaker, a graduated cylinder, and a pipette. I set up the balance scale and put water in the beaker. I put the cube on one side of the scale. Then I took the water from the beaker and put some of it on the other side of the scale, until it balanced. Finally, I took the water out of the scale and put it in the graduated cylinder to see how much water it was. It was 1mL.

Technology:
Digital Photography (Kaylee):
This week I finished my Creative Live video on propping. It was very interesting. I can't wait until the next video, Food Styling Props!

Digital Art (Landen):
I traced the Jurassic Park logo with my tracing pad and then colored it.

It was really fun!

Elective:
Culinary Arts (Kaylee):
This week I made some grilled peaches. Thing is, they weren't grilled. Instead, I used the air fryer!

First, I put the peaches on the tray. Then I air fried them at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 5 minutes. After they were done, I coated them in brown sugar and butter and air fried them once more for another 5 minutes at the same temperature. Then we ate them. They were really good!!

P.E. (Landen):
I read about the history of golf. I learned that golf was banned in Scotland in 1457. In 1502, the ban was lifted with the signing of the Treaty of Glasgow. In 1682, the golf course at Leith, near Edinburg, was where the first international golf match was held.

Arts and Crafts (Emberly):
This week I used an art set I got for Christmas!

First, Kaylee drew a  picture (the one on the right). Then I redrew it in my own way with my art set (on the left).

It was so much fun!

Hot Springs, Cashew Coconut Balls, and Play-Doh!

Math:
This week I (Landen) finished my 4th grade assessments and started my assignments for the lessons that I need to learn. I should be finished by the end of the school year. I (Kaylee) have a few more assessments to do and then I'll be able to start 7th grade math. I (Emberly) did a Discovery Can. I counted up some blocks from the set.

Language Arts:
This month we decided to start a reading challenge. I (Landen) am reading a book to mom for 20 minutes a day. I (Emberly) am reading mom a little book every day. I (Kaylee) am doing Brave Writer by myself this time, since Landen is taking a break. If we meet our goals for all of March, we will get Banana Splits.

I (Landen) am reading my Harry Potter books to mom. They have pictures in them. I got them for my birthday.

Science:
Spa Chemistry (Kaylee):
After doing our report on Hot Springs, we went to Crystal Hot Springs in Honeyville to experience them!
Here is my recap of the pools:

The water was so warm. There was what I call a "hot pool," that was so hot you couldn't stay in it for long, a "warm pool," which was the perfect warm temperature, a "cold pool," which was a regular pool for when you got too hot, and two awesome water slides. The slower slide was closed most of the time, but I went on it twice. The first time, there wasn't enough water and I got stuck several times in the slide. The second time was perfect. It was medium-fast, there was enough water, and it was fun. It was mostly for little kids though.

The faster slide was for older people. I went on it more times than I could count. It had so many turns, including a super fun part where it was calm for a while, then a twist, 1 second later (before you could get your bearings), another twist, and a little later, another twist. It was so fun! I almost barfed when I went backwards. I couldn't see the twists, and even though I knew they were there, it made me nauseous. It was so fun though, even going backwards, that I went several times! Even going backwards! There was so many stairs to take up to the slides, I almost backed out. It was sooo high! If the entrance to the slides wasn't shielded by wood, and I could see how high up it was, I wouldn't have gone down. Luckily, I couldn't see how tall the slide was and I went down. The rest of the times, I was either to exhausted or excited to be scared!

Elementary Science (Landen):
This week we went to the Hot Springs!

We loved experiencing the hot springs! It was so much fun!! It was cool to experience water that was heated by magma.

Technology:
Digital Photography (Kaylee):
This week I continued my Creative Live video about food photography props. I learned about how a simple object can have many uses, and how props help tell the story of a photo. The teacher shared a funny story about finding two glass plates with gold-color rims at a yard sale or something. He asked the owner how much the plates were. He sold them to the teacher for 1 dollar each. The teacher then photographed some food on the plates and the person who made the plates e-mailed him and told him that she made the plates. She said they were "hand-blown glass, gold inlay, from California." She thanked him for using the plates in his shot and asked for a copy of the photo. She then asked him where he got them. He told her, and she laughed. Finally, she said, "since you like them so much, I'll send you a couple more." It was a very funny story. Obviously, the guy who owned them didn't realize how valuable the plates were!

Digital Art (Landen):
This week I made a clicker game on Scratch. A clicker game is where you click on an object and get money. With your money, you can buy new items. It's really fun. You can check out my project here. I also used this tutorial to make it (not by me).

Elective:
Culinary Arts (Kaylee):
This week I made some Cashew Coconut balls.

I blended the ingredients in our blender and then rolled them into balls and coated them in coconut. Then I froze them. They're really good!

P.E. (Landen):
This week for P.E. we swam at the Hot Springs!

My P.E. was climbing up the stairs to the waterslides and then going down, as well as swimming. It was really exhausting but definitely worth it!

Arts and Crafts (Emberly):
This week I played with Play-Doh!

I made a gingerbread girl and some hearts. I stamped some decorative holes in them with the back end of a paintbrush!

It's The End... It's Over. 2022-2023 Goodbye!

Pre-Algebra: This week I completed my Final Mr. D. Math lesson and my Semester II test!! I completed a survey and gave them some feedback. I...
