Week of Mar 27-31 LL #33

Pre-Algebra:

This week I did two lessons and completed my Chapter 10 test. I have finished chapter 10!

Creative Writing:

This week we talked some more about playwriting. We came up with more ideas and refined our characters.

Social Studies:

This week I read two chapters of Story Of The World. I read one of them aloud to Shiloh but he wasn't paying attention. He was sticking his tongue out, saying "Blehhhh", and laughing.

Tech (Exploring Technology):

This week I learned about hypnotism! So I headed into Minecraft to show a hypnotism experiment.

Week of Mar 20-24 LL #32

Pre-Algebra:

This week I started Chapter 10! I learned about solving polynomials.

Creative Writing:

This week we talked about writing plays. We examined the differences between plays, novels, and movies, and started filling out a chart about playwriting.

Social Studies:

This week I read three chapters of Story Of The World. I'm trying to find book two but so far it hasn't turned up.

Tech (Exploring Technology):

This week I learned about illusions and magic tricks! As you might guess, it was very fun. I learned about the art of misdirection in magic tricks and how the brain perceives the input it gets from the eyes. For my Minecraft build this week, I was to create some illusions in Minecraft!

After researching some Minecraft illusions, I recreated these super cool ideas!

Week of Mar 13-17 LL #31

Pre-Algebra:

This week I did a few lessons and my Chapter 9 test. I am so excited!

Creative Writing:

This week I was sick and did not go to my class. However, I am writing a story on my tablet about a princess who escapes from an arranged marriage and joins a group of bandits. It's interesting, and I have about 5-6 chapters done.

Social Studies:

This week I read two chapters of Story Of The World. I am not liking the history in this one at all- it's all death and control slipping out of the king's grasp, cities sliding from person to person in unsuccessful attempts to corral the people. Hopefully, we have evolved.

Tech (Exploring Technology):

This week I learned about the five senses and how they transmit messages to the brain. So for my Minecraft build, I was to build one of the five senses. I chose hearing.

Here is the full build. I built it over the ocean so the ear can hear the ocean waves crashing. If there were waves in Minecraft, of course.

First, sound waves enter the ear canal through the ear.

They hit the ear drum, and it vibrates. The ossicle bones (the hammer, anvil, and stirrup) detect this vibration and send the sound wave into the cochlea.

The cochlea is full of fluid, which sloshes around. The nerve fibers sense this sloshing and send the message to the brain via the auditory nerves. The sound enters the auditory cortex part of the brain, and the brain recognizes the sound as a creeper's hiss (which explains the creeper right by the ear) or whatever the sound was. This all moves very fast, though not fast enough (usually) for the player to run away from the 1.5 second countdown the creeper has before it explodes, if the creeper takes them by surprise. :)

Elective (Writing for Publication):

This week I was sick and did not go to my class. I did my homework (adding certain paragraphs to my In Defense Of Social Awkwardness essay, and refining the ones I did last week) and worked on stories I have already started, outside of class.

Week of Mar 6-10 LL #30

Pre-Algebra:

This week I did three lessons of Mr. D. Math. I am doing really well at math!

Creative Writing:

This week the teacher brought donuts! We ate donuts, talked about poetry, and did a freewrite.

Social Studies:

This week I read three chapters of Story Of The World. There was a lot of death involved, and that is all I shall say on that matter. 0_0

Tech (Exploring Technology):

This week I learned what all the different parts of the brain do. Then I built a model of a brain and put signs saying what each part do.

Week of Feb 27- Mar 3 LL #29

Pre-Algebra:

This week I completed a lesson and did my Chapter 8 test. I did not win the video contest. I was invited to join a Zoom meeting with a music producer, but when I checked the time I was almost an hour late and it was over.

Creative Writing:

This week was Service Week at my school. We did a freewrite and then worked on numerous service projects for the rest of the time. One of the projects was making adult bibs for the elderly, as well as making cards for them. The sewing machines didn't want to cooperate very well for the final step, but we were able to get most of the stuff done.
