Boo-Chetta Toast and Basketball

Language Arts:
This week we finished our book, "Before the Ever After." Check out this post to see what we did for our Book Club Party.

Science:
Spa Chemistry (Kaylee):
This week I made a scented pumpkin pie candle. I can't wait to light it and see how it smells!

We also used the candles I have been making for our pumpkins.

The top Jack O' Lantern in the photo above is Mom's. The middle one is mine, and the bottom one is Shiloh's (mom helped him with it). The reason my pumpkin's nose is so big is because I tried to make a kitty's nose and whiskers. It didn't work out, so I had to fix it and made the nose bigger to hide the kitty's nose.

Shiloh, in his astronaut costume, loves the pumpkins!

Elementary Science (Landen):

When we were done with our pumpkins, I put baking soda and green food coloring into Emberly's pumpkin (we thought it was the cutest to display in the video), then poured in the vinegar to make a pumpkin volcano!

Here is a picture of the pumpkin we used!

Technology:
Digital Photography (Kaylee):

This week I watched another video on Creative Live. I learned about histograms, which is basically a graph of the brightness, darkness, and different colors of a certain photo.

This photo is directly from Creativelive.com.

The photo (left) is very snowy and white. The histogram (right) shows a big grey spike on the right side, which means the photo is bright (because of the snow). If there was a grey spike on the left side, that would mean that the photo is very dark. Also, there can be color spikes if there is a large amount of blue or yellow or red or any other color in the photo. It was very interesting to watch! I love histograms!

Finally, there was a quiz. The teacher showed a photo and 3 histograms. He asked which histogram went to the photo. (Again, all photos below are screenshotted directly from Creativelive.com).

This is the correct histogram for the photo: histogram B, which has a little bit of a grey spike on the left side (the photo is a little dark) and a few color spikes (there is a lot of color).

If the correct histogram was histogram A, the photo would look like this: a grey spike on the right side, and a very bright photo!

If the correct histogram was C, there would be a spike on the left side, and a very dark photo.

Digital Art (Landen):
I used our tracing board and I traced a jack o' lantern. Then I colored it!

Elective:
Culinary Arts (Kaylee):
This week I finished up my Halloween Raddish recipes by making Boo-Chetta Toasts.

I decorated the toasts to look like creepy eyeballs! They were really good, but I toasted them in the oven for about 2 minutes longer than I should have and they were a bit crunchy. Still, it was a very great mix of flavors- smooth broccoli pesto, unique-tasting roasted bell peppers, yummy mozzarella cheese, and tangy olives! I tried to upload a video of me decorating the toasts, but the file was too big.

P.E (Landen):
This week I had a basketball clinic at the local high school gym. We ran through all the basics. I practiced dribbling, passing and all the language that comes with it. It was really fun!

We also played a couple basketball games. We played a game called Thunder and a different game called Lightning.

I love to wear my basketball pants, my basketball shirt (it's black with a red image of a basketball guy), my favorite shoes, and my favorite jacket!

Arts and Crafts (Emberly):
I made the cool craft that my homeroom teacher shared with me. I paused the video several times and made sure to take my time making it nice.

Oh, what a cute little Frankenstein drawing! Not suspicious at all!

Huh? What's that?

Ahhh!!!! The brain is electrocuted!

Ta-da! I loved spooking my siblings and parents with it!

  1. So, I was sure wondering how the candles would do in the pumpkins? Look very bright! Did the pumpkin spice candle smell spicey when lit? I bet it was a good time carving the faces on the pumpkins. You made a great recovery on yours, Kaylee. It could smell the pumpkin spice better if you lit your pumpkin spice candle!
Shiloh is a cute astronaut. Bo was an astronaut, too for Halloween.
I learned from your histograms. In fact, I'd never heard about a histogram of a photo. That was fascinating info.

Ok, I'm wondering. Were the creepy eyeball toasts hard to eat cause of how they looked?
Sounds like Landen had a great time with his basketball camp. Tell him, I like his basketball attire.
Isn't that such a cute Frankenstein!?!? And then...Oh Emberly, scary!!! I bet she had fun spooking everyone! Haha!
