Introduction to 8th Grade Classes - LL #1-2

Hello and welcome back to the KLEOS Academy blog!

I am Kaylee Hurd, and I am 13 years old. I am in 8th grade. My siblings, Landen and Emberly, will be attending the Davinci Distance Program. Look out for separate blog posts about their school adventures!

This year I will be taking Pre-Algebra for math. For Language Arts, I will be taking a Creative Writing class at Link Education League. I will have the opportunity to get feedback from my fellow students and teacher. For Social Studies this year, I will be using a curriculum called Story of the World. I will read a chapter or section about history, then do crafts or activities about what I learned. 

For Entrepreneurship, I will take a class at Link Education League and learn how to start a business and make the world better with it. At the end of the semester, I will be able to create my own business! For Elective, I chose another writing class called Writing For Publication, because Language Arts is my favorite subject. We will be able to edit each other's work, make a magazine, and do other cool projects. I am very excited for this school year!

Math:

We do not have my school year's curriculum yet, so I did CTC (last year's curriculum) until the subscription ended. I learned area of Composite Shapes, which is a shape made of several different squares and rectangles. I also learned converting from Metric to Imperial.

Language Arts:

My classes have not started yet, so I had to find other things to do. I read Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine, one of my favorite authors. I am also reading some of my other favorite books to Emberly, and I am reading the Fablehaven series (my absolute favorite series) to Landen.

Social Studies:

I can start Story of the World, so I read the introduction and filled out a paper about history.

I also colored a title page with a tree on it. I enjoyed coloring the mushrooms at the bottom of the tree, and I made a little pond by the roots.

Entrepreneurship:

An important part of business is managing money well. Since my entrepreneurship class has not started yet, I am doing chores to earn money. I split it up into 3 categories: Save, Give, and Spend. The "give" section is for saving up for birthdays and Christmas gifts for my family. I haven't figured out what to save up for yet (I kinda just have a bunch of stuff on Amazon I'd like to have), but I know it is important to save money.

Writing for Publication:

I am typing up a novel on Word. It is called The Cloaked Man, and it has 3 books in the series. I am currently working on the 3rd book, The Cloaked Man 3. I am excited to finish it. It is a really cool series!
