Back to School - Warm Up Week LL #3

Back To School Night For Link Education League:

We went to back to school night this week! I learned that we do have yearbooks. I'd been hoping we did, but I wasn't sure. So, yay!

We also looked around the school, figured out where my classes would be, and decided that I'm not going to be doing Entrepreneurship after all. Instead, I'm doing Tech (Exploring Technology).

Pre-Algebra:
This week I started my Math Curriculum- Mr. D. Math. It is really fun! I learned about counting tens for addition and a really fast way to do subtraction.

Creative Writing:
This week I did a worksheet in one of my writing books. I looked up some words in some of my favorite books and wrote down some cool-sounding words. I included things like "quip" which, in dictionary.com, means "a clever or witty remark or comment."

Social Studies:
I read two chapters of Story of the World. I learned about nomads, who sleep in tents or caves, and move around a lot. They ate berries, leaves, bird eggs, lizards, and animal meat. When the animals ran away and they harvested all the food in the area, they moved on to another place.
I also practiced internet safety by covering up anything that might be harmful. Of course, everyone who reads the blog knows my name, but still.

I also learned about the Nile River and the Egyptians. The Nile River flooded every year, which would be a disaster, except for it flooded at the same point in the year every year, and the people who lived there were ready for it. They dug canals, and the flood water filled them. This way, they had water for the dry seasons. The floods also brought up silt into the river banks, which was very fertile. Farmers planted their crops there.

Tech (Exploring Technology):
This week I started making a project on Scratch. My actual curriculum hasn't started yet, so I am doing Scratch stuff until it starts. I started making something about KLEOS Academy. I won't tell you all the details, because it is a surprise. ;)

Elective (Language Arts):
I read a book called "Parties and Potions" by Sarah Mlynowski. It's about a teen witch who takes witch classes. It's really funny. However, I think it is book 2 of the series. That's confusing because it doesn't show a book number on the spine.

Guess what? I googled it and found out it is book FOUR of the series. The last book. So now I know how the series ends. Dang it!

P.S. Emberly's and Landen's Davinci Academy curriculum hasn't started yet. For now, they are doing workbooks. Soon, they will have a report to themselves.
