It was another great week at KLEOS ACADEMY. The weather has been so nice. We set up a tent in our backyard and slept in it throughout the Labor Day weekend. We also went Swimming on Monday before the pool closed for the season. This is what we did this week..
We are finishing up our assessments. We are so close to being done!
Emberly has been doing lessons on Mathseeds and practicing her shapes with hands on play.
Language Arts

We finished our book and had our party over the long weekend. In case you missed it, here's the post. Now that it is a new month, we have started our September book, Leon Garfield's Shakespeare Stories. This is a book of short stories and we will only be reading 4 of them this month. This week we read "Romeo and Juliet."
Emberly works on her handwriting everyday. She also has been doing Reading Eggs and Fast Phonics. She read the "Cinderella Goes to the Ball" book to mom.
Science
Spa Chemistry (Kaylee):
This week I made some festive apple-cinnamon-oatmeal soap.
It is scented with cinnamon and apple oils.
Again, we spritzed the soap with rubbing alcohol to pop the bubbles.
I added a little bit more ground cinnamon to one batch so two of them are a little darker than the other two.

Elementary Science (Landen):
This week I got out my nature explorer kit.
I caught a grasshopper in my bug jar. The first one lost a leg while I was screwing on the lid. Oops! The second one pooped in the container so I had to wash it out.
I'm so excited to explore my backyard this month!
Technology
Digital Photography (Kaylee):
This week our class taught us about shutter speeds. We went to the park so I could practice and experiment with different shutter speeds. We also played volleyball and kickball.
The following photos are ones I took myself!
We plugged in my camera and uploaded them to the computer.
On the computer, I learned to crop the photos.
I took a lot of photos and picked my favorite ones to put on this blog.
On Creative Live, I learned that it's okay- even great- to have a little bit of blur on a photo to show motion.

Landen also took some photos:

Digital Art (Landen):
We still can't quite get my Artist 12 art pad to work yet, so I drew this birthday card for Mom using our electronic tracing pad. I found a flower I liked and traced it.
Elective
Culinary Arts (Kaylee):
I made the dough and re-learned my "new" culinary skill- kneading dough. The dough had to rise for an hour. When it was done, I made a cinnamon and brown sugar mixture and stuffed it into the dough balls. Finally, I fried them on the stove, flattening them with a spatula. They were so good that I made another batch after we ate the first few!
PE (Landen):
We also went to the park and played kickball. Check out this cool picture my mom took with her phone. If you look close you can see that Landen is above the ground!
Arts and Crafts (Emberly):
This week we read a few books about colors and shapes and made a rainbow and cloud craft. I did such a good job writing my whole name on my cloud!
We started a quote book for the year and this week's quote of the week comes from Emberly, "I need more school in my life!"
She gets very disappointed that she doesn't have more classes to do- only Elective! We need to find ways to let her participate in our other classes. She loves school so much!

Howdy! The Fall weather has berm beautiful. You are doing so many fun activities! Can I come learn at your school?๐๐ฅฐ
ReplyDeleteI like the smell of apple-cinnamon. I have bathroom spray in that scent. It's a perfect Fall fragrance! Do you use your soaps for hand washing?
It is great to hear Emberly loves school. I hope she always does.
Thanks for sharing the photos you've taken. They look great and it looks like you all had fun at the park. Great exercise, too.
I'm feeling hungry after seeing your pancakes. You had to make more, huh, cause they were so good!!
I bet your mom loved the b-day card you made, Landen. I hope you can get the Artist 12 art pad to work soon. Watch out for those pooping grasshoppers...they are messy! Sounds like you got lots of exercise!
I'm looking forward to the "quote of the week" quotes! It's quite enjoyable to hear the one liners that can sometimes say it all!
Love you guys!
