It's party time!! Our monthly Brave Writer guidebook gave us suggestions on what to wear, eat and do. We had so much fun!

For internet safety reasons, we blacked out our address.
In the book, the people in one of the Bureau's departments were instructed to wear whatever makes them happiest. We also followed their dress code for our party.
We strung up twinkling lights to make the entrance to our party festive.
A while ago, I planned and choreographed a dance to the song Let it Go by Demi Lovato. Landen, Emberly, and I all wore blue in the dance, and this is the dress I wore. It makes me feel accomplished, and it literally has THE BEST twirl ever. I also wore the watch I love, comfortable pants, and a mechanical pencil behind my ear. Too bad the pencil fell out. :(

Oh Yeah!
"The yellow shirt reminds me of the sun, and the blue pants remind me of water." -Landen.
"I love smelling flowers, and I love pink. There's also flowers on my pants." -Emberly.
We cut out and decorated our own badges. In the book there was a test for Amari's potential. The more durable the badge, the higher Bureau potential you have. The options we included for the craft: notebook paper, plastic, foil, cardboard, copper, gold, and moonstone.

The finished badges!!!
The following list goes from top to bottom, left to right: Mom's cardboard badge, Landen's printer paper badge (he'd put the glitter glue on the wrong side- the badge template side, not the colored paper side), Dad's foil badge, Owen's copper badge, Emberly's gold badge, and my moonstone badge. Originally the green moonstone colored paper had, somehow, partly been dyed a sandy yellow at one edge. How cool would it be for a moonstone badge to be half yellow, half green? But I put the glue on the multi-colored side. The template is covering that side, and now my badge is green. Sad. :(
The meal- breadsticks, salad, and spaghetti.
In short, we're having spaghetti because Amari threw her plate of it at a bully. The guidebook suggested adding salad and bread to make the meal more complete.

Ginger Ale, Strawberry Sherbet, and strawberry-lemon concentrate. Yum!!!
One of the girls (in the department where you wear what makes you happy) was named Strawberry. There was also a celebration party for those who passed a certain level of trying out. They served cookies, pies and strawberry punch.. So we made strawberry punch.
After dinner we passed out index cards and brain stormed our natural talents and abilities. We then decided on what our enhanced super natural ability would be within the Bureau.
There was also a festival that they attended in the book. They had 3 different choices of milkshakes and cotton candy.
For dessert we made strawberry, chocolate chip, and banana milkshakes, as well as cotton candy flavored popcorn. We were eager to eat and completely forgot to take pictures of them so you'll just have to imagine! It was a delicious night for sure!!
We encourage you to read Amari and the Night brothers by B. B. Alston. It is a really good book. Mom says someone bought the rights to make it a movie, so we will be very excited when that actually happens. The sequel is also set to be released in February.
We hope you enjoyed reading about our party!

Now that was fun to read about your party! I like to have themed parties. That's awesome you could plan your party around the book! Sounds like the food from the book was yummy and something all would love...who doesn't love spaghetti!?!! I'll have to read the book. I like how you all had different badges. A perfect twirly skirt is fun! What talents did you all come up with?
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your party events with us...loved it!
I hope you have another great week. Enjoy your mom's b-day celebration!
Love to all,
Grandma Susan
