Math, Music and Crafts

Science:

This week we played muscle games online and watches educational videos about the muscular system.

Tech:

Kaylee: As part of my MTH direct class, I built one of the suggestions they listed. I built a harmonica out of craft sticks and rubber bands.

You can find the link here

By moving the frets (Post-It notes) I can make different notes, high, medium, and low! The closer they are to each other, the higher the note. The farther apart they are, the lower the note.

I learned that when I use wind power (blowing in between the craft sticks) the rubber band in the middle vibrates and makes the sound. So cool!

Landen: I built a guitar out of a tissue box and a cardboard tube for my Tech class.

My sister Kaylee helped me innovate it by using different width and length rubber bands to create different sounding keys.

I sound great!

Kaylee:
We decided to make a band so I made a pan flute out of  drink straws for Emberly to play in the band and Landen made a drum out of a box and drumsticks out of small craft sticks for Owen. Now we need to decide: what song are we able to play with our wide range of instruments and should I sing instead of playing my harmonica or should I make a different instrument like another guitar or something so I can sing and play?

Elective:

Arts and Crafts (Kaylee): I helped my mom make a weighted blanket for my dad for his birthday. I learned a lot about measurements and weighing the plastic beads.

I fill the bowl and measure it to 2.7 ounces (that is 8-10 percent of my dad's weight.) and then pour it into a cup. I repeat until all eight cups are filled. Then mom pours them into the blanket's columns and while she sews them closed, I refill all of the cups again.

I tried to pour the beads into the blanket and I fell asleep. Ha-ha, just kidding, I blinked as mom took the picture.

Building Machines (Landen):
I built a special vehicle for driving in the snow.

  1. Sounds like you have quite a band. Did you decide on any songs to sing and play? Did your dad like his blanket? How was your Thanksgiving? Lots of questions for you this time. Thanks for sharing what you did this past week. Also, it was fun to see you on the Marco Polo on Owen's b-day!

  2. It's pretty hard to have a band... I keep losing my harmonica and we aren't super good... it's hard to even find a song that we can play with Owen's drums, Emmi's pan flute, and our other musical stuff. Have any ideas?
Anyway, we are currently trying to have an easier band. I'll sing, Emmi can hum (a pretend piano) and Landen wants to do "beatboxing" but how do we incorporate that into a regular Disney song? 🤔
Anyway, thanks for commenting and I will try to comment back at you as often as I can! Hope I remember to check the comments before I get off this computer!
