This week I learned about like terms and distributive property, basically solving for x. I got a B on both lessons.
Creative Writing:
This week I learned about tenses and story point of views (or POVs). We practiced writing a scene of a story in the different tenses and point of views. Here are some of mine (by the way, I could not find it in my tablet notes, so I tried to recreate them here):
First Person POV, past tense (usual writing).
I was in my garden, peacefully watering my roses.
Suddenly, I heard an awfully familiar scream.
My human sister!
I sprang up into the sky with my gold wings.
No! My sister! Where is she?
I looked all around, but I could not find her.
The evil fairy, the Dark One, has my sister!
Where is she?
I finally found her. Tied up to a giant tree.
Third Person POV, past tense
The fairy was in her garden, peacefully watering her roses.
Her human sister was tied up to a giant tree, not too far away. The fairy
did not know she was there. Seeing the Dark One leave, she
screamed as loud as she could.
The fairy looked up. She sprang into the air with her gold wings.
No! My sister! Where is she? The fairy thought.
Help me, thought the human girl. Please, help me. Over here.
The fairy finally saw her. She gasped.
The girl was tied up to the tree.
First Person POV, present tense
I am in my garden, peacefully watering my roses.
Suddenly, I hear an awfully familiar scream.
My human sister!
I spring up into the sky with my golden wings.
No! My sister! Where is she?
I look all around, but I can not see her.
The evil fairy, the Dark One, has my sister!
Where is she?
I finally find her. Tied up to a giant tree.
(just for fun) 2nd Person POV, future tense!
You will be in your garden, peacefully watering your roses.
Suddenly, you will hear an awfully familiar scream.
My human sister! You will think.
You will spring up into the sky with your golden wings.
No! My sister! Where is she? You will think.
You will realize that the evil fairy, the Dark One, has your sister.
You will finally find her. She will be tied up to a giant tree.
It was so much fun! I loved it. By the way, for clarity, 1st person is "I" and "me". This has lots of feeling, but you can't reveal other characters' thoughts.
2nd person is "you". It's as if the events are happening to you, which is cool, but sadly, this is rarely used, and mostly for Chose Your Adventure books.
3rd person is "they" and the characters' names. This includes everyone's actions and thoughts, which is nice, and can provide tension with stuff the reader knows and the main character(s) do not. However, you feel outside of the story, not that much feeling in it.
Social Studies:
This week I made a tomb for something (you shall see what later), and drew a map to the tomb. I made Owen the archeologist and we had lots of fun finding and exploring the tomb.
First I made a map, then Owen and I followed the line and found the tomb.
Next, we drew a picture of the tomb before we touched anything, as real archeologists do.
Finally, we explored! Oh, and we opened the golden casket (aka yellow blanket) to find... watch the video to find out!
Tech (Exploring Technology):
This week I learned about ocean currents. I learned that cold ocean currents are more dense than the ocean water, so they sink. Warm ocean currents are less dense, so they rise and make a layer over the cold currents. Next, I made a model of ocean currents in Minecraft. I included signs telling people about what I learned. At first I just made a 2-block model, one layer red glass, one blue glass, then I realized how not cool that was, so I made it bigger and more awesome.

Elective (Writing For Publication):
This week we looked at other magazine sections and analyzed a deeper meaning in the words. We looked at one paragraph that did not have much feeling, and rewrote it to include some "pathos", some passion, a little bit of bias.
