Saint George Field Trip!

This week we went to St. George!

Math:
This week, I (Kaylee) did Division and Multiplication with Fractions. I also found this cool new math games website for us to play! It's called Math Playground, and Landen and Emberly played for most of the morning! I (Landen) played Grand Prix Multiplication against Kaylee. I (Emberly) played Jet Ski Addition against Landen.

Language Arts:
This week we finished our book, Show Me A Sign, and printed off some preschool and kindergarten worksheets for Owen and Emberly to do.

Science:
Spa Chemistry (Kaylee):
This week we went to Saint George!! We went swimming, tried a bunch of new foods, and took a lot of pictures. For Spa Chemistry, I learned what chlorine does to your skin and hair. I learned that the chlorine in pool water dries out your skin. I applied LOTS of lotion after swimming for nearly 3 hours!! (Best swim of my life ;)) I also learned that for blonde-haired people, not bathing after swimming in chlorine can turn your hair green!! Finally, I learned that chlorine's disinfectant chemicals can take away your hair oils. You need some oil in your hair, otherwise, it will be dry, brittle, and dull. This can lead to hair damage such as split ends! Luckily, this didn't happen to me, because I showered. Whew!

I also printed off my End Of Year Chemistry Report and turned it in to mom for her to grade.

Elementary Science (Landen):
This week, I wrote a report about The Saint George Narrows, which we visited in person. I printed it off and turned it in to mom for her to grade.

The narrows were formed by water rushing on top of the rocks. The water started cutting into the rocks and eroding them away, making this very deep and very narrow passageway.

I could just barely fit, with only an inch or two to spare.

Kaylee could barely fit! It was crazy and a little scary, but so much fun and definitely worth it!

We also had fun hiking in Pioneer Park.

We climbed on the red rocks until we were sooo high! It was such a great view!

Whoo-hoo!

I hope we can go again next year!

Technology:
Digital Photography (Kaylee):
This week I watched my first Food Demonstration on Creative Live! The teacher showed plate-ing, styling, extra things, and shooting for spaghetti and pudding. I learned two different techniques for spaghetti- plating it without the sauce in a little swirl, then adding sauce, cheese, and parsley, or tossing it in the sauce, adding cheese and parsley, and then twirling it around a fork. Both were pretty simple and made the photos pretty different, even though it's the same food. For pudding, I learned about swirling the pudding and whipped cream to make it look perfect but natural. So, slightly not perfect. ;) The teacher said that the only thing his does to trick his viewers (like commercial advertisers do) is not use whipped cream, but yogurt. Since whipped cream melts SUPER fast and doesn't hold it's shape, and yogurt is perfect for the job, that is what he does. He said, "I never do anything to my food to make it inedible afterwards... and besides, you can always scoop off the yogurt afterwards and put real whipped cream on it." 😜

Digital Art (Landen):
This week, Kaylee gave me a prompt and told me to make a project about the prompt.

"Soft and spiky.
Poisonous and deadly.
But only if you touch it!"

So, I created this project. Hope you like it!

Elective:
Culinary Arts (Kaylee):
We experienced rolled ice cream for the first time. It had a delicate and delicious texture! It was amazing. So, so amazing. Perfect. Beautiful. I'm running out of adjectives here... let's check the thesaurus... Oh! It was also piquant, ambrosial, toothsome, and sapid, apparently ;)

This is my ice cream taco!

I had Strawberry Cheesecake, which came with strawberry ice cream, cheesecake bits, strawberry syrup, strawberry Pocky, and whipped cream!

Landen had Mint Oreo, which came with Oreo ice cream, chocolate syrup, whipped cream, and Oreos.

Emberly and Owen shared a Rainbow Road taco, with Fruity Pebbles and rainbow candy.

Dad had a Peanut Butter Cup taco, with Reese's Peanut Butter Cup ice cream, caramel syrup, whipped cream, chocolate syrup, and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.

Mom had a Chocolate Brownie taco, with chocolate and brownie ice cream, chocolate syrup, whipped cream, brownie bits, and chocolate Pocky.

P.E. (Landen):
This week, when we went to Saint George, we went to Thunder Junction!! It is a park with a splash pad and a train. We bought tokens for the train and enjoyed a ride around the park, spotting toy dinosaurs around the track, life-size dinosaur bones, and a slightly-smaller-than-life robot dinosaur. It was so much fun! We even went in a tunnel, which was really dark.

Landen and Kaylee are dino twins...

We took pictures in a HUGE dinosaur egg and played at the park.

Emberly, Owen, and Shiloh are dino triplets! Emerging out of the egg together.

We played on this bouncy, swing-like thing...

...and rocked on a purple dinosaur!

"Pure Joy"

Finally, when we were hot, we cooled off at the splash pad. The water was really cold but it was nice!

ZIPLINE!!!! Whoo-hoo!!!!!!

It was so much fun! I hope we can go again next year!!

Arts and Crafts (Emberly):
Kaylee showed me how to make a paper snowflake, so...

I made a silly paper snowflake! It has magic powers. The pink makes everything I draw glittery pink, and the blue makes everything in our house blue-colored.
