We continued our assessments. I (Kaylee) am doing assessments on Algebra, and I (Landen) am doing assessments on equations with money and fractions. I (Emberly) learned about the numbers 13, 14, and 15.
Language Arts:
We took a break from Brave Writer and are reading The Vanderbeekers (book one). The Vanderbeeker family live in a city and are being forced out of their home by their curmudeon (mean and grumpy) landlord, Mr. Beiderman.
Science:
Spa Chemistry (Kaylee):
This week I experimented with my soap and tried to make it look like chocolate chip cookies. I colored the main part brown and melted a smaller part and colored it dark brown. Then I dripped the darker brown soap into the already-hardening light soap to look like chocolate chips. It looked fine before it hardened, but when it hardened fully...
It kind of looks like it's growing mold, so I think I'll try again next week. Or maybe I'll do something else... ;)
Elementary Science (Landen):
I learned about hot springs. There are lots of different types of hot springs in the world. One is hot water mixed with mud and clay. This is called a "mud pot." Another type of hot springs are geysers, which shoot water into the air. The water is heated by magma under the surface that comes up near the water. The location of the hot spring determines what type of hot spring it is. If it is near the mountains, it is a clay pot. Geysers are mostly found near volcanoes and other warm places.
Technology:
Digital Photography (Kaylee):
This week I took my Polly Pocket people and staged them over a gigantic world of food.
I set the queen, the biker, the ice cream girl, the bike, and two servants up on my dinner plate and took pictures of them. I practiced changing up the settings to get good quality photos and moving the fork around so that it didn't reflect the lights into the lens of the camera, causing a glare. And then I ate the people!
Don't worry, I took all of my Polly Pockets out of my food before eating it.
Digital Art (Landen):
This week I continued working on my Escape the Room project. I am doing a competition with @ilovemermaids09 (Kaylee's Scratch username), to see who can make the best Escape the Room.
Elective:
Culinary Arts (Kaylee):
This week was Valentine's Day, so I made a special (pink) breakfast for me!
I made some oatmeal and warmed up some frozen strawberries and cut them into hearts. The strawberries made a syrup-like liquid when they were heated, so I drizzled it above my hearts. It was really good and gave a delicious start to the day!
P.E. (Landen):
This week we watched a video on Youtube called Encanto Run!
You move around some of the rooms in the family Madrigal's Castita and perform actions to pass through the rooms. You duck under bats, birds, rainbows, and flower wreaths, avoid thunderclouds, cheetas, and sprouting flowers. You can also kick cactuses, punch raindrops that shatter like glass, and collect fragments of Bruno's vision in the each room.
It was really fun and exhausting!
Arts and Crafts (Emberly):
This week I took out some textured art plates and drew pictures!
You put a paper over the plate and rub a crayon over it. The textured plate makes cool designs on the paper!
This is my art!

Hi! Just so you know I had two comments on this post almost finished and then I hit something and the comments disappeared. Talk about frustrating!!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, you guys do the funnest activities. The soap cookies just look like they have melted chips in them. The strawberry ❤ oatmeal is making me so hungry and the people salad is clever photography. Sure glad you didn't eat the people!ð I'm posting this now, cause I don't want to lose it. Part 2 coming...
ð,
Grandma Susan
Part 2
ReplyDeleteGood luck Kaylee and Landen with your friendly competition on the Escape Rooms!
I sure like you telling me about the Encanto Run. A great way to get some exercise. I need to watch the
Encanto movie.
That's awesome you were able to learn about different hot springs and then went to Crystal Hot Springs for Landen's b-day. Also, I'm happy to hear everyone was healthy for the trip.
Looks like you had fun making the texture rubbings, Emmi. I like the diamond one the best with the different colors for each row.
I made without loosing any comments. Good luck on the rest of your assessments!
ð always,
Grandma Susan
I made *it* without loosing...ðĪŠð
