Bathbombs, Bouncy Balls, and Beads!

Math:
This week, I (Kaylee) started my 7th grade assessments (to see how much I knew for 7th grade math). I (Landen) continued my 4th grade assessments. I (Emberly) did more Mathseeds and learned about the numbers 11 and 12.

Language Arts:
This week we read more of our book, Becoming Muhammad Ali. We did our copywork. I (Landen) wrote a story from a prompt from one of Kaylee book, Writing Magic by Gail Carson Levine. I (Kaylee) continued working on some of my stories. I also wrote a story on Scratch called Trust and Hope. I entered my story into a Scratch Writing competition. I am now waiting for the results to come out. I hope I win! I (Emberly) read Green Eggs and Ham to Grandma when she came and visited us.

Science:
Spa Chemistry (Kaylee):
This week I made some more bathbombs!

One of my bath bombs was too soft and crumbled. I turned it into bath salts.

I colored them blue and scented them with grapefruit essential oil. Grandma came and visited us the day that I made them, so I gave her one!

Elementary Science (Landen):
This week I got out one of my old science kits and made some bouncy balls!

I put the crystals into the mold and held it in a cup of water for a few minutes. Then I pulled it out and let it dry. It was so much fun!
Technology:
Digital Photography (Kaylee):
This week I went outside and took some pictures. Since it is still cold outside and the leaves haven't grown back yet, it was hard to find something beautiful to take a picture of. Still, I found some interesting things to take pictures of!

This is a cool weed growing against one of our garden boxes.

There's a scary monster in our backyard! Nope, just a tree. ;)

Upon closer inspection of what looked like the empty bush that used to be beautiful... I found (most likely poisonous) berries growing there!

This was taken by me lying on the grass looking up.

A pretty sun glare!

This is another picture that was taken by me lying down on the grass.

Digital Art (Landen):
I started to make a platformer on Scratch. It isn't finished yet, but I will continue to work on it in the coming weeks. In case you don't know, a platformer is a game where you use the arrow keys to move through the levels and jump over obstacles. You can check out some really cool platformers here (these aren't made by me): https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/133942259  https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/305468636

Elective:
Culinary Arts (Kaylee):
This week mom, dad, and I had a competition to see who could make the best cake mug. We chose 3 different recipes and made them. Then, we topped them with ice cream and tried them. We rated them 1-10 stars. I rated 8, dad rated 7, and mom rated 9.

P.E. (Landen):
This week we used our Christmas money to buy some new scooters!

Mine is blue, Kaylee's is purple.

We also bought new helmets, then went outside and took them for a spin!

Arts and Crafts (Emberly):
This week I rolled some strips of paper into little beads and make bracelets out of them!

I made some pink rolls. I made two bracelets out of it. Kaylee made some purple rolls. She let me use her extra purple roll, so I decided to put it on the end of my 2nd bracelet.

Kaylee made some pink beads and purple ones, so she made a necklace. We used this website's tutorial. Scroll down and you will see the video tutorial!

  1. I love your photos, Kaylee! The tree limbs from you looking up thru them to the sky is my fav. Also, the tree knot could look scary...like an eye.
Have you used the bath bombs?
I'm glad you and Landen shared with us what you bought with your Christmas money. I hope you're able to ride them lots and lots.
Landen, did the bouncy balls work?
Good luck with your project on Scratch.
I bet that was fun to have a mug cake challenge. What was the winning flavor?
The bracelets and necklace look like they were fun to make. What nice colors!
Time for me to get ready for bed. I'm tired!
    Love you guys!
    💜,
    Grandma Susan

  2. PS I know you used Scratch for your story, Kaylee. I have read it and will comment on it soon.🥰

Just to clarify, I was referring to Landen's Scratch project in my comments in the first post.
