Abacus, Volcano, and New Headbands!

Math:
I (Emberly) did Mathseeds. I like the part where there were songs. I (Landen) learned to measure with gallons, pints, and cups. I (Kaylee) learned Time Differences and made an abacus out of one of my Radish boxes, yarn, and letter O stickers. Then I researched how to do math problems on it. I can do addition and subtraction really well and am learning how to do multiplication and division on my abacus.

The abacus is set at 0.

The abacus is set at 852.

The abacus is set at 25 times 5.
Language Arts:
This week we read more of our book, Front Desk, and did our copy work. In the book, Mr. Yao is really mean to the people in the hotel. He has a swimming pool but he won't let anyone use it. I (Emberly) did Reading Eggs and read a book about making crafts with pipe cleaners and other stuff.

Science:
Spa Chemistry (Kaylee):
This week I made some lemon and vanilla scented soap. I put dried lemon slices in the soap before it hardened.

I originally was going to make it clear soap and drip yellow soap into the clear soap just before it hardened, but that didn't work out.

I can't wait to use them! They smell so good!

Elementary Science (Landen):
This week I painted my volcano.

I also painted the lava tracks to look like lava.
Technology:
Digital Photography (Kaylee):
This week I finished my video about making the viewer feel hungry as they look at your photo of food. I also started another one about proper lighting.

Digital Art (Landen):
This week I remixed a project on Scratch and added to it. It is a 100% pen sky. Somebody else made the sky, but I made the settings button and the settings code. You can find it here. Kaylee helped a lot with it. She is excited that we finally got the volume/mute button to work. She has tried to make a volume button in her projects before but it has not worked.

Elective:
Culinary Arts (Kaylee):
This month's theme is: Flavor Lab.

This week I made some lemon pepper chicken for dinner. We ate it with rice and broccoli.

It was really good! I ate the leftovers for lunch the next day. I also learned how to reheat rice so it isn't all crumbly and dry. I put one tablespoon of water onto the rice, covered it with a damp paper towel, and microwaved it for 2 minutes. It was ALMOST like it was fresh.

P.E. (Landen):
This week I rode on my bike outside. It was fun! We rode around our cul-de-sac and had fun in the good weather.

Arts and Crafts (Emberly):
This week I made 3 headbands with a kit I got for Christmas.

First I planned out what the headbands were going to look like so that I didn't run out of supplies while making them.

My favorite part was wrapping the ribbon around the headband!
