Math
We are almost finished catching up on the things we didn't learn last year at school. We are learning division with fractions (Kaylee) and division with large numbers (Landen). It is fun when I (Kaylee) teach Landen my math and he does it with me. Landen thinks my math is cool and wishes he was my age, learning my math. Soon we will begin this year's math!
Emberly got a new book from Costco because she was getting tired of computer school. She practiced lines and shapes as well as counting.
Halloween is in the air! I (Kaylee) wrote a poem about Halloween.
"The sky is black and
the lights are low.
The moon as big as a peach.
Witches and vampires and skeletons
running 'round.
Phobias darken every corner.
I watch from the bushes
as a group gathers at a door.
A ghost, a werewolf, a princess.
They knock.
The door opens with a creeeaak.
They open their mouths to scream.
'TRICK OR TREAT!'
It's Halloween."
Also, Mom typed this week's passage onto the computer and misspelled (on purpose) some words. She also left out some punctuation and some other grammar things. Then she printed it off. We corrected it, using red pens like a teacher.
Emberly is getting so good at reading. She loves books about princesses and she wants to read and write everything!
Mom surprised us and took us to the Library this week. We all got to pick up a couple of books!
I am reading Ogre Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine (one of my favorite authors).
Science
Spa Chemistry (Kaylee):
This week I finished making candles for our pumpkins. As part of my photography class (below), I made a video of me making it. Landen was the cameraman. We recorded it on our Fire tablets and on our cameras and placed them at different angles.
Elementary Science (Landen):
This week I did some more Tiny Science. I dissolved Epsom salt in warm water and then painted my mixture onto a piece of paper. When the salt cooled, it formed little crystals! It was so cool!
First I wrote the word "awesome" on a piece of paper with my Epsom salt mixture, then I realized I'd make my letters too big and I started over with another paper.
I wrote the word "awesome" and drew stars and hearts below it.
Technology
Digital Photography (Kaylee):
This week I made a video as I said previously. I also watched more videos on Creative Live. I learned about how the aperture setting affects the depth of field (DOF) in the photo. Then I experimented with DOF on my camera.
Digital Art (Landen):
This week Kaylee gave me a tutorial on how to use Scratch, her favorite drawing and coding website. I drew a little man and animated it to walk and change color. When I first made it walk, it didn't move it's legs. The second time, it stuck it's leg out at a funny angle. Next week, I will make it look more normal.
Elective
Culinary Arts (Kaylee):
This week I made some yummy Ice-Scream pie! I made a chocolate syrup from scratch (no, not the website, 😉) but it didn't thicken up enough. I scooped the ice cream onto the pie crust and flattened it out with both a piece of plastic wrap and a spatula. Then I drew a spiral of chocolate syrup onto the ice cream and used a toothpick to make it look like a spiderweb. Because the syrup was runny, it doesn't look perfect, but it tasted perfect!
PE (Landen):
This week it rained a lot and so I stayed inside and did yoga- Star Wars version!
My siblings had fun doing it with me!
Arts and Crafts (Emberly):
This week I traced my hand on some white paper and folded the fingers to make joints. It's a skeleton hand! Kaylee did it too.

The hands on the top are Kaylee's, the hand on the bottom is mine!
Love this!! Really like your poem. You're very talented! I'm glad you like to read! Reading is the best! The digital art that Landen is doing look great! I liked the ice scream pie video!😁 I've never heard of the Yoga Star Wars version. Looks fun! You guys do such cool stuff! I'm impressed. Sure love you guys! Say hi to everyone!!
ReplyDeleteIt's so great to read and see the interesting and fun activities you're doing for school. I think my favorite thing to see this week was the joints in the hands. Those look cool. Also, I enjoyed the crystal experiment...pretty amazing!
ReplyDeleteIt's great the pie tasted delish!
Hey, I did think the exercising pics were fun! Gee, I don't know what my favorite thing was really, cause the pie making video was fun, too! I guess it all was my favorite!😊🥰
Thanks for sharing your activities!
