Math
We did a couple of lessons each day. Landen is working on Subtraction and Multiplication. I am working on highest common factor and Table Of Values, which is a sequence of numbers. You divide, multiply, add or subtract to fill in the blanks of the sequence. Once I got the hang of it, it was fun!
We also played Blink several times this week. It is a fun and fast card game that helps us practice, colors, shapes and counting.
This week we read "Much Ado About Nothing." It was a Tragicomedy. (We like the sound of that word. It means "tragic comedy.")
We made this week's reading more interesting because we got up each day and made a pot of tea. We sat around the kitchen table and sipped our tea (or hot chocolate) while our mom read Shakespeare. We called it, "Tea with Shakespeare." It was perfect with the cooler weather we have been experiencing in the mornings.
Science
Spa Chemistry (Kaylee):
This week I took a break from making things... cause how much soap and bath bombs do a person need?? (Or so mom says...)
I watched a video on Mystery Science about Chemistry. It was called: "Are Potions Real?" It had an experiment about using different liquids to clean dull pennies. We tried many different liquids: dish soap, bleach, Coke, fresh lemon juice, vinegar and baking soda, vinegar and salt, and 2 different cleaning sprays. The one that worked best was the salt & vinegar mix. Dish soap also worked very well, but not perfectly!
Elementary Science (Landen):
You might call this week a gross science week. I caught a daddy long leg spider, an earwig and some kind of flying insect. I also used my tools to examine the plants outside near our garden. Mom found a giant, hairy spider in her tomato plants! I was too scared to capture it so Kaylee did. She says the spider hardly moved when she closed the tool around it. Afterwards, she freaked out and the spider almost escaped!
Technology
Digital Photography (Kaylee):
This week we finally learned about ISO! We have been looking forward to it for a while. Our teacher told us about the debate about whether it is pronounced eye-S-oh or eye-so. It is another setting we have on our camera and it was great to increase our understanding of it!
Digital Art (Landen):
This week I drew a boy and the Lego logo on my art pad.
You'll notice that the boy doesn't have hair, and if you look closely, you might notice that on his left sleeve he has a light red line on it. I will fix these details next week.
I love Legos!!!
Elective:
Culinary Arts (Kaylee):
This week I made some Chicken Corn Chowder with bacon sprinkled on top of it!!! There is both corn in the chowder and in the cream, and because I love corn, this was great! I also love bacon, so basically, this was made for me!
It was really, really good. We don't normally have chowder, but we ate this up!! Good thing there was lots of it! It made a lovely lunch!
PE (Landen):
This week I did hiit (high intensity interval training) with mom, Kaylee, and Emberly.
We used mom's weights. It was really hard but also super fun!!
Arts and Crafts (Emberly):
This week I dipped apple halves into paint and stamped them onto a sheet of paper. It's red, yellow, red, yellow to be a pattern!!
Then I colored stems on the apples and colored grass in between them. I love apples, especially yellow ones!!
