Christmas Crafts and The Lymphatic System

Science:
This week we read about the Lymphatic System aka the Immune System and did an activity about germs and washing our hands. We learned about white blood cells, the tonsils and lymph nodes.

We got our hands wet with lotion and then put glitter onto them.  She explained that the glitter was like germs. My glitter was purple and she said that I had touched a doorknob and gotten the flu! Oh no! Then we pretended that I had played dolls with Emberly and when we touched hands the glitter spread. Now she has flu germs too!

Landen was playing and then got Covid-19, mom said. Then she shook green glitter into his hands. He was playing with a car and got glitter onto it and gave it to Emberly. Now she had Covid-19 and flu germs! Then I took care of her and caught Covid as well.

EWW!!!

Then we washed our hands. Mom explained that when you don't use soap, you can't get all of the germs off. But when you do use soap, you can completely wash your hands.

Soap is my best friend!

We did another experiment about washing hands. We rubbed paint onto our hands and pretended that it was soap. Mom showed us that the spots on our hands that weren't covered in paint were where the germs would not have been washed off.

Emmi's hands are pretty covered!

Owen doesn't quite know how to wash the backs of his hands yet...

Tech:
Doodle Crate (Kaylee):
I'm still embossing lanterns, there are about 15 of them to make so it takes time. I can only do a little at a time because it makes my hand hurt.

Tinker Crate (Landen):
This week I built an air cannon for my target.

Yeah!
Elective:

Arts and Crafts (Kaylee): We made Christmas crafts this week!

There is one of Owen's candy canes.

He just loves to make them!

Building Machines (Landen):

Landen build a water treatment truck. It sucks up water and filters it.

Bonus Highlight: For my bookworms club I read the book, The Doll People. An activity we did to go along with it was to make a doll.

  1. Yucky! Your hands are dirty!!😳 Nice to know we can wash our hands and they're clean. What a great way you learned about germs and how they spread. I sure don't want the flu or Covid. I've always thought it was important to wash hands. Are all y'all healthy and ready for Christmas? I hope so! Looks like you have your tree decorated. Thanks for this blog. I sure like reading about your school week! Are you taking a break from school till next year?
I hope your family has a joyful Christmas! I love you all and miss you all!

  2. We're healthy! No sicknesses! Yes, we did take school off for Christmas, I think. I mean, we did school games for fun, and since we homeschool, we don't go anywhere... we are at school everyday! So, for me, that's a tough question, ha ha.
