This week I continued Chapter 11. I learned about the Pythagoras Theorem.
Creative Writing:
This week we talked about character sketches for our characters. A character sketch is the backstory and a few more details about the character. Our homework was to create a character sketch of the main character of the story she showed us last week.
Social Studies:
Blood, blood and death! That's the summary of the Story of the World chapters I read this week.

So, yeah, not very fun to read. However, it did make me hunt up some cool emoticons!
Tech (Exploring Technology):
This week I did another of the Minecraft Frozen Planet worlds. There's only one more left, and I plan to do that one on Earth Day, which is tomorrow (from the date of this post). I also TRIED to get SHADERS (which make the world in Minecraft look SUPER cool) in Minecraft, but you needed something called OPTIFINE to make them work, and you had to do all this TECH STUFF in files on the computer, and I had NO IDEA how to do that. So thus, no shaders. :(
So, after two long and grueling hours (literally no sarcasm), running out of time with literally no forward progress, I decided to try out hardcore mode in Minecraft. This is where if you die, you don't respawn and you can no longer interact with your world. So far I haven't died, but who knows? There's very high stakes.

| I completed Frozen Lands! |
I was a wild cat searching for meat, avoiding (or at least trying to avoid) the poacher's traps. That was extremely hard because you basically can't see the traps until you're literally right on top of them. Next, I was a Lapland bumblebee collecting nectar while simultaneously watching over my eggs' temperature. If they got cold, I had to warm them up. If they got too cold, they'd freeze and I'd fail. Also, if my nectar bar ran out, I'd die. And finally, if the 3 minute timer ran out before I collected 20 nectar (the flowers were pretty far away from my nest and the eggs froze after about 20-30 seconds), I'd also fail. So it's really no wonder it took me at least 6 tries to get it right.
In hardcore mode, the Minecraft hearts are different, hostile mobs hurt the player A LOT, and lots of other things are changed. It's very fun, but also very hard. I made sure to make a bed on the first Minecraft day so I could sleep through the night and avoid the hostile mobs. Otherwise, I don't think I'd still be able to play in that world (death and no respawn).
Elective (Writing for Publication):
This week I revised my article for the Link Education Blog and turned it in to my teacher. She said it only needs copy editing and then it is done and ready for the blog!!!
The other students still needed a little more work on theirs, so we spent the rest of the class time helping them.
So excited for my work to be on the blog!!!
Update for the Nubian Magazine- it takes a looong time to compile our essays, lists, maps, and other papers into a magazine. More work will be done in the summer, including the artwork and layout. The teacher said I could help if I wanted to. I'll have to see what my schedule is for the summer.

There sure are many aspects to Minecraft. I'm sure you learn lots.
ReplyDeleteI've been wondering about the magazine...it's a looong project just like you said. I'm hoping I get to read it sometime!
I do read your blog. I'm just not very good at writing anything.
Love,
