Week of Jan 9-13 LL #22

Pre-Algebra:
This week I learned about Ratios and Proportions for Mr. D. Math. Once I complete Chapter 6, I'm going to take my Semester I exam.

Creative Writing:
This week was my last Creative Writing class for the semester. My teacher is going on a trip and won't be teaching next semester. She brought muffins and we talked about the publishing process. Then we played games such as Story Cubes and Storymatic. Storymatic is a fun card game. There are two colors of cards: one for characters and one for situations. You draw one or the other or both and make a story for them. We played an Apples to Apples version of it. The cards you won describes you. I got three cards. Guess who I am? A romance-novelist pig miner. What. The. Heck. ⚆_⚆ x_x I also begun plotting out a new novel from a story prompt I found.

Social Studies:
This week I learned about Roman battles. The Romans were very powerful. They started and won even more wars to add to history.

Tech (Exploring Technology):
This week I started my Minecraft class! I am doing a Maps and the World class. I learned about compass roses, a legend (map key), and different kinds of maps. I made a treasure map!
For my Minecraft activity, I made a house using a tutorial from the internet that took WAY longer than it said it would, and then made a map wall. A map wall is where you take several maps, activate them around your world, and then put them together on the wall. It's kind of hard because you have to get the maps to line up perfectly, but it's worth it because it looks so cool!!! I tried making a map wall in my last class, but it didn't work out. :(

Doesn't it look awesome? The inside is way better!

There is a mini observatory on a balcony, with a chair and a chest. The chest has a Star Log and a telescope (actually a spyglass because telescopes don't exist in regular Minecraft).

In the lower level, there is a bed, bookshelves, a few chests, and a cool aquarium with a dolphin, turtle, and several fish.

The upper level has my first successful map wall!! You can climb up and see the aquarium from the top. You can also see the aquarium if you're on the roof, and look down on it. Finally, on the lower level, you can go underground and look up at the aquarium from below.

I am very proud of this house. It took a few hours, but the map wall connects!!!, and there is an awesome aquarium.

Elective (Writing for Publication):
This week was the last class of the semester. However, next semester I also have this class and we will finish up this semester next week since we ran a little late.

I brought my revisions of my Importance of Cataracts and my Nubian Food Traditions reports. We worked on this writing exercise where we write down all the steps of how to do something, but we aren't allowed to use certain words. For example, if we chose "How To Toast A Poptart," we couldn't use the words "toast" and "poptart". We had to use X and Y. So our lists were titled as "How to X the Y." I chose how to crack an egg. It was hilarious writing, "Grab a Y. To x the y, smack the y on the table. Do not smack it so hard the y breaks. Pry open the y shells and let the y plop into the bowl. Throw away the y shell." It was also very fun to read to the class. Several people wrote how to crack an egg, too.

Next class should be the final class for this magazine. We've worked so hard on this. I can't wait!
