The Third Official... Whatever ;) LL #6

Pre-Algebra:
This week I did three lessons of Mr. D. Math. I really like this curriculum! I learned about integers: the positive numbers, the negative numbers, and 0. I also learned about translating problems like "three plus three" into "3+3". It was really fun!

Creative Writing:
This week I printed off my story, The Cloaked Man, and gave it to my teacher. We filled out a worksheet about characters- what their flaw(s) are, what they need to learn, what their goal is, what stops them from achieving their goal, what the conflict/ catalyst is, and how their goal changes because of the conflict. And yes, I covered it in hearts. Of course.

Can't really see it that well... oh well.

The teacher also let me borrow a book that I liked. I am taking very good care of it, of course.

Social Studies:
This week I read a story/ myth about the king Gilgamesh, a half-god, half-man. He was the strongest person on Earth. One day, a half-man, half-animal being (named Enkidu) tried to kill him because he was so cruel. They fought for a long time. Finally, Gilgamesh overpowered him. However, he was so tired. So, of course, they became friends.

Another day, the bull of gods escaped. It was very destructive. Enkidu killed it, but the gods were angry. They killed Enkidu. Gilgamesh was very sad. He decided that he would make himself immortal. He went to the only immortal man on Earth and asked how to become never-dying. The man told him to get a plant from the deepest ocean and eat it. Gilgamesh did, but a snake ate it before he could. So, he grew old and died like everybody else.

Tech (Exploring Technology):
This week- finally- I did my first Minecraft lesson! I learned about avalanches. I learned that there is a week layer of loosely packed snow under the heavily packed snow. If the weak layer collapses, the hard-packed slab slides down the mountain, creating an avalanche. Avalanches are very dangerous.

For my first lesson, I created a ski resort on my school's Minecraft server. I didn't have enough time to finish the inside, so there are still lanterns on the floor. Upstairs, there will be a hotel kind of thing, only I didn't have time to build that, and the only furnishing I could build was a check-in counter.

This is a screenshot of the check-in counter.

I also used fences to rope off a likely avalanche place. Of course, this is just fake, since there are no avalanches in Minecraft, but it was fun.

I am so glad that I could make this! I love my Minecraft class.

Elective (Writing For Publication):
This week we got out the tablets and researched some things. I learned that Nubians ate camel liver! Gross! We also did a warm-up writing exercise. I wrote a story about propaganda.

For our homework this week, we researched some more about our columns. We needed to come up with 3 facts/ideas for each column we were doing. And... guess what? I FINALLY found a kabed recipe! I've been looking forever! I found an online cookbook called Nile Style, recipes from the Ancient Egyptians and... Nubians! that lived near the Nile River. And guess what? This ties in with Story of The World pretty nicely. I can't wait to make the kabed and see if the recipe works. I would share the cookbook link, only... it's a surprise. You'll see it in the school magazine. :D
