This week I (Landen) finished my 4th grade assessments and started my assignments for the lessons that I need to learn. I should be finished by the end of the school year. I (Kaylee) have a few more assessments to do and then I'll be able to start 7th grade math. I (Emberly) did a Discovery Can. I counted up some blocks from the set.
Language Arts:
This month we decided to start a reading challenge. I (Landen) am reading a book to mom for 20 minutes a day. I (Emberly) am reading mom a little book every day. I (Kaylee) am doing Brave Writer by myself this time, since Landen is taking a break. If we meet our goals for all of March, we will get Banana Splits.
I (Landen) am reading my Harry Potter books to mom. They have pictures in them. I got them for my birthday.

Spa Chemistry (Kaylee):
After doing our report on Hot Springs, we went to Crystal Hot Springs in Honeyville to experience them!
Here is my recap of the pools:
The water was so warm. There was what I call a "hot pool," that was so hot you couldn't stay in it for long, a "warm pool," which was the perfect warm temperature, a "cold pool," which was a regular pool for when you got too hot, and two awesome water slides. The slower slide was closed most of the time, but I went on it twice. The first time, there wasn't enough water and I got stuck several times in the slide. The second time was perfect. It was medium-fast, there was enough water, and it was fun. It was mostly for little kids though.
The faster slide was for older people. I went on it more times than I could count. It had so many turns, including a super fun part where it was calm for a while, then a twist, 1 second later (before you could get your bearings), another twist, and a little later, another twist. It was so fun! I almost barfed when I went backwards. I couldn't see the twists, and even though I knew they were there, it made me nauseous. It was so fun though, even going backwards, that I went several times! Even going backwards! There was so many stairs to take up to the slides, I almost backed out. It was sooo high! If the entrance to the slides wasn't shielded by wood, and I could see how high up it was, I wouldn't have gone down. Luckily, I couldn't see how tall the slide was and I went down. The rest of the times, I was either to exhausted or excited to be scared!
Elementary Science (Landen):
This week we went to the Hot Springs!
We loved experiencing the hot springs! It was so much fun!! It was cool to experience water that was heated by magma.
Technology:
Digital Photography (Kaylee):
This week I continued my Creative Live video about food photography props. I learned about how a simple object can have many uses, and how props help tell the story of a photo. The teacher shared a funny story about finding two glass plates with gold-color rims at a yard sale or something. He asked the owner how much the plates were. He sold them to the teacher for 1 dollar each. The teacher then photographed some food on the plates and the person who made the plates e-mailed him and told him that she made the plates. She said they were "hand-blown glass, gold inlay, from California." She thanked him for using the plates in his shot and asked for a copy of the photo. She then asked him where he got them. He told her, and she laughed. Finally, she said, "since you like them so much, I'll send you a couple more." It was a very funny story. Obviously, the guy who owned them didn't realize how valuable the plates were!
Digital Art (Landen):
This week I made a clicker game on Scratch. A clicker game is where you click on an object and get money. With your money, you can buy new items. It's really fun. You can check out my project here. I also used this tutorial to make it (not by me).
Elective:
Culinary Arts (Kaylee):
This week I made some Cashew Coconut balls.
I blended the ingredients in our blender and then rolled them into balls and coated them in coconut. Then I froze them. They're really good!
P.E. (Landen):
This week for P.E. we swam at the Hot Springs!
My P.E. was climbing up the stairs to the waterslides and then going down, as well as swimming. It was really exhausting but definitely worth it!
Arts and Crafts (Emberly):
This week I played with Play-Doh!

Hey here I am again!! How's the reading challenge going? There's still a couple of weeks left in the month to finish it out.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad everyone was well so you could go to Crystal Hot Springs. It's fun to see that you had a great time. Thanks for sharing your experiences on the 2 different slides. When grandpa and I drive by there and it's always full of people.
The story about the plates the guy bought at a yard sale is very interesting! Kind of fun to hear his experience with them.
I have never really eaten dates. My mom talked about when she was young, she'd go to a store called Auerbachs in Salt Lake with her mom and they'd eat date nut bread with cream cheese there. I'm glad to hear the cashew coconut balls were good. I love cashews and coconut!
Landen, I'm sure your clicker game is cool. I still need you to show me how to be on Scratch...
I really like the looks of your gingerbread girl, Emberly...so clever to use the paintbrush to make holes! Sure adds a lot to your hearts and girl!
Take care all y'all!
