Tree, Soap, and A New Addition to A Project!

Math:
This week we did more CTC. I (Landen) am learning "axis of symmetry" and measuring angles. I (Kaylee) am learning about rotational symmetry and measuring angles and then adding them up to form a 180 degree line. I (Emberly) practiced adding and subtracting with Kaylee.
Language Arts:
This week we read more of "Front desk." We listened to it in the van when we did errands. We also listened to it while we were coloring. I (Kaylee) was inspired by Mia's best friend, Lupe, who likes drawing trees, and drew my own tree. I colored the sky four different shades of blue and the grass three different shades of green. Like Lupe said, "It's all in the detail, so don't rush." I didn't rush.

It took a while, adding all of the lines and twigs (they aren't worms, they're twigs), but it was worth it in the end.

Science:
Spa Chemistry (Kaylee):
This week I made the boys some soap, so they don't have to use mine.

I colored them blue and green.

The blue ones smell like brown sugar and the green ones smell like orange. I tried to make the green ones a swirl of blue and yellow, to match our bathroom, but the blue was too dark and I mixed it too much. They blended into green.

I noticed that when I held the blue soap up to the light, it shone through. Look at the fancy swirls! The green ones were too dark and thick to shine.

Elementary Science (Landen):
This week I set off a volcano! I put dinosaurs in it so that the lava would run over them. One dinosaur tipped over and was "drinking" the lava, and it's tail was right up to the volcano and lava spilled over it. Poor dinosaur!

Technology:
Digital Photography (Kaylee):
This week I watched more food photography videos. I learned about using props to make your food look even yummier. The teacher talked about how sometimes, props don't have to be elaborate in order to look good- he once shot a photo where it was simply a rib on a cutting board, and that's it. The photo looked delicious!!!
I also did some editing with mom's phone on my tree picture and the picture of Emberly's Arts and Crafts class below.

Digital Art (Landen):
This week I added something new to my project, the remix of 100% pen sky! When you click the green flag, you probably won't see anything new. But... try clicking the stop button! I used this tutorial (on Scratch) to add my new feature. I also used this engine to make the special feature. All the credits are also on my project, in the "credits" feature.

Elective:
Culinary Arts (Kaylee):
This week I made some Parmesan Umami Noodles. For this month's Radish kit (Flavor Lab), we are exploring different tastes. This week's taste was Umami, so I used mushrooms, parmesan, and pasta. First I cooked the pasta and saved some of the pasta water in a liquid measuring cup. Then I cut and cooked the mushrooms in the pasta water and added them and the parmesan into the noodles. It was so good, we ate them up before we could get a picture!

P.E. (Landen):
This week we played with kids in our cul-de-sac, and another day, we had a picnic! We ate hot dogs, chips, and fortune cookies. (Weird, right? Fortune cookies don't go with hot dogs, but we ate some anyway.) My fortune was "you will find the solution to your problem where you least expect it." My problem was "what should I do to play outside?" I played a game with Emberly. We played tag and "fire boy and water girl" (a 2-player game on Poki, but we did it in real life). By the way, the game no longer works on Poki, so the link is to "Cool Math Games."

Arts and Crafts (Emberly):
This week I printed off an image of Isabella from "Encanto." Then I cut her out (with Kaylee's help) and glued her onto a piece of paper. Then I drew and cut out flowers all around her. Kaylee wrote her name at the top of the page with markers.

It was so fun to assemble all the flowers!

(The editing Kaylee did for her photography class.)

  1. I'm finally here again! You are a great artist, Kaylee! I love the detail in your tree. No worms there!😊
I like the deepness of the colors of the soap...seeing the swirls in the blue one was cool.
I like how you're learning about photography.
The noodles you made sound so good. I love mushrooms and I was telling Grandpa yesterday that I hadn't had any since eating the Cowboy pizza at the Christmas party. I'm glad the noodles were gobbled up!
I'd been anxiously awaiting the volcanic eruption! It was awesome to see it! Poor dinosaur.
Landen. I was able to get on the Scratch program this time, but I need you to show me what to do.ðŸĪŠðŸ˜
I'm glad you guys were able to play outside!
Emberly, your Encanto pic is beautiful!
Grandpa and I hope to see you soon.
    Love to you all!
    💜, Grandma Susan
