This week we cut out our body parts. Then we stuck them onto our bodies with glue. It was cool to see the project we've been working on all year come together. It was a lot harder than we thought, putting everything exactly where it goes. But in the end, it was worth it.
Tech:
Our May Crates have arrived! We are excited to continue them this summer!!
Doodle Crate (Kaylee):
This week I glued four wood pieces together and painted them. It is an underwater-themed clock. I just haven't put the clock hands on yet.
Tinker Crate (Landen): I built a vacuum chamber. For my first experiment I put a small, filled balloon inside the chamber.
After pulling the plunger and removing the air from the sealed area, the balloon expands!
For my second experiment I used mini marshmallows. It would have been cool to use large fresh ones, but this what we had.
When I removed the air, the marshmallows expanded!
When the tubing is opened and the air returns, the result is shriveled up marshmallows.
For my bbn last experiment, I filled up the beaker with Mountain Dew. This is what it looks like normally.
When the air is removed from the chamber, the bubbles expand and rise to the surface. This causes them to pop and splatter on the top of the chamber. See below.
Then finally, when the air returns, the result is a flatter version than the original.
Elective:
Arts and Crafts (Kaylee):
This week I made a face mask from a spa kit. It's made entirely from oats and honey. Clumps of it kept falling off my face and down my shirt. The honey was very sticky and despite me pulling my hair back, it still managed to get into my hair! It was very messy but fun.
Building Machines (Landen):

I'm having a hard time thinking that a whole school year for you guys has gone by. Did it seem fast to you? Your body "puzzles" sure look good. I bet you'll always remember where the different organs belong and why they're important for keeping us alive.
ReplyDeleteI love the clock, Kaylee! Did you finish it and put it in your room?
Sounds like the "spa treatment" was interesting. Do you like using face masks?
Landen, what great things you learned from putting items in the vacuum chamber. I liked the experiment with the balloon the best...it was cool to see it expand! Has your laser watch taken out any bad guys?!?
I hope you have a fun, happy, and safe summer! I love you all and wish I could see you!!!
