October Crates Part 2, a Bones Test and more Pajamas Pants!

Science:

We studied and studied and then we took our test on the names of the bones!

Score system: For every ten bone names we label and get correct, we will get one dollar to spend at Dollar Tree. Mom will pay all costs, including tax. Mom looked at our Skeleton book and saw that there were about 31 specific bone sections. If we got all of them we could get three dollars, (or three items at Dollar Tree.)

First, we assembled our skeleton with super cool glue tape from my scrapbooking supplies! It is much easier to apply than glue, plus no drying time, and it doesn't explode out of the sides and wrinkle the papers from being super duper wet!

Second, we began labeling. My mom challenged me to label all of the vertebrae, if I did, I could get an extra point. So I learned how many vertebrae there are in a human spine. There are 7 in the cervical vertebrae, 12 in the thoracic, and 5 in the lumbar.

For Landen, my mom typed up an alphabetical list of the bones we had studied. Landen's challenge was to find out where they went.

My challenge was to label as many as possible, and to write it out extremely detailed!

The test results are in!

The 3rd Grade Test
Out of the 33 on the list, Landen labeled 28 of them. He then got 22 of those right! He hoped for 1 dollar, but he really wanted 2. Landen earned $2 (+ tax) for our Dollar Tree shopping trip!

The 6th Grade Test
After tallying the bone sections that were required in the test, mom added up the bonus points for labeling things like each vertebrae, bones in the ear, and bones on the back of the head. My total points: 49! Mom generously rounded it up to fifty points. I earned $5 (+ tax) for our Dollar Tree shopping trip!

We have really been wanting to go to Dollar Tree for quite a long while. We were really excited (and motivated.) Landen bought a 3-pack of pens and a 3-pack of mini-sized notebooks. He loves how they match.

He likes them!

I bought a journal, a 2021 year planner, purple sparkly nail polish, Pink Himalayan salt & cherry Chapstick, and a soft frozen lemonade (not pictured because I ate it.)

I got everything that I have been needing, and most of what I have been wanting.

We also read about Muscles and were introduced to our next unit... The Muscular System!

Tech: Technology and Innovation Kiwi Crates Part 2

Doodle Crate (Kaylee):

If you look closely you can see my first and last initials in blue. Do you see it? K. H.

Tinker Crate (Landen):
This week I finished connecting wires and hooked up the LEDs to my color changing crystal.

Elective:
Arts and Crafts (Kaylee):

Another week of sewing and I'm making... more pajama pants! This time we figured out how much fabric we would need and we went to the store to pick out enough to make 2 different sizes. Now we will be matching!!

No pictures this week.. but we pre shrunk the fabric, ironed it, cut out the pieces from the patterns and I stitched the inner leg seams.

Building Machines (Landen):

I continued my Go-Cart assignment. My assignment was to build a go-cart and a track to race it on.

I used masking tape and built a lap for my go cart.

I also made pit stops.

My little brother and sister wanted to play, too, so I made them go carts as well.

Bonus Highlight:

Landen and I joined a Mix it (virtual) club! First, each month we get a secret ingredient. Second, we make something of our choice. We could make a recipe, find a recipe on the computer, or use one of mom's recipes. We used recipes on Pinterest. And third, we take a photo and share it with the group in the following month. October's secret ingredient was PUMPKIN. Even though Halloween is over now, we eventually got around to making this recipe.

Pumpkin Oreo Cheesecakes!

They have an Oreo, then cheesecake filling, then an Oreo, and then whipped cream and some Halloween-colored sprinkles we found at Walmart.

Last month I also made pumpkin filled ravioli (I made the noodles from scratch with our very own noodle maker!) that was quite adventurous and Landen made pumpkin chocolate chip muffins!

  1. Wow...you guys had a busy week and a productive one!!! Congrats on your great scores on the bone test.
I'm looking forward to seeing pics of the pj pants. I couldn't get the crystal video to work. Nice job making cars for Emberly and Owen. I wish I could have been there to eat the yummies! I'm making pumpkin bread tomorrow. Love to you guys.💜, Grandma Susan

  3. Maybe don't ask... it was quite adventurous. Ha ha. Next time, we'll roll out the pasta dough a little thinner so that you don't get a mouthful of pasta (usually, I love a good mouthful, but not in this case!🤮) and mom and I will find a better recipe so that the filling isn't basically straight pumpkin!
