Nervous System Week 5: Hearing and SightThis week we learned about our eyes and ears and how they send signals to our brain.
This is how we hear:
This is why we shouldn't stick anything, like cotton swabs into our ears, because we might damage parts of the middle ear.
This is how we balance:
If you spin around fast, motion sensors send conflicting messages to the brain, which can make you feel dizzy. This is caused by fluid that moves around inside of the canals.
Experiment #1, We spun around really fast and then STOPPED. We experienced what it feels like to be dizzy.
Experiment #2, We walked on a tight rope and saw the role our eyes take in combination of our ears in helping us to balance. We also tried it after spinning around.
Tech
Experiment #3, We followed this maze around and around, until we got to the middle.
Fun Fact: These are three of the tiniest bones in the human body!
Experiment #4, We took an eye test. First we covered one eye, then the other, then we opened both of them. We learned that it is much easier to read the chart with both eyes open. We all have great vision!
We also learned about color blindness and how more boys than girls have color blindness.
Tech
Landen: My walking robot came with paper and instructions to draw and build my own parts for my robot. This is what I made.
I like it!
Kaylee:
I submitted my airplane assignment on Canvas. I also read about the innovation journal, which is something to print out and fill out all the questions about innovating. Innovating means figuring out a way to change something and make it better.
I printed the innovation journal pages and began working on the first section.
Electives
Building Simple Machines (Landen): I made a flywheel cruiser that I can wind up so it drives around.
Arts and Crafts (Kaylee):

I sure enjoy reading about what you're learning at school!
